Flooring, the advantage of choosing ceramic tiles!

New construction or renovation of a space or your entire home, you must choose the type of flooring you want to install. Indeed, ceramic tiles are very popular in interior design and offer several advantages over other flooring materials. Moreover, for many people, it is sometimes difficult to make the right choice, because there are so many variations on the market to compose your floor.
First, ceramic tiles are very durable and are one of the most popular choices among builders and contractors. They can be installed in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and even outside on decks and patios. Another advantage of choosing ceramic tile is that it is highly resistant to mold, water damage, and other forms of wear and tear that affect other types of flooring, such as wood or carpeting in humid climates.
With an infinity of combinations, imitations, and materials, here are some of the reasons and/or advantages for which ceramic tiles remain one of the most appropriate choices for your walls or floors.

Flexibility

One of the great advantages of ceramic tiles is that they are very versatile. You can use them inside and outside your home, for example on kitchen or bathroom floors, around fireplaces, barbecues, and even in hot tubs, etc.
Also referred to as porcelain stoneware, in the form of slabs, tiles, or pavers, ceramic tiles are extremely durable, as they withstand high temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Celsius. In addition, they are easy to maintain and clean.
If you want to provide a beautiful finish to any room in your home without worrying about the possible risks of deterioration, you should definitely consider using ceramic tiles.

Refined aesthetics of rectified tiles

If you have to choose between rectified or classic tiles, it is important to get the services of a good ceramic installer, because not all tile artisans master the techniques of jointless installation.

Rectified ceramic tiles are made from natural clay, with a high-temperature firing process that creates a smooth, flat surface. This makes them suitable for all types of applications and decor, creating a more contemporary look.

Ground ceramic tiles are beautiful options, and they come in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and textures.

Sustainability

Made from clay, ceramic tiles are very durable and resistant to everyday wear and tear: abrasion, scratches, and stains, so they retain their beautiful appearance even after years of installation. This makes it a perfect choice for any room in your home and any other high-friction outdoor space.

Manufactured according to the ISO 10545/9 standard, ceramic tiles are very practical due to their resistance to punching. In this regard, if your tiles indicate a value equal to P4S, it means that they are resistant to the constant passage of heavy objects and impacts.
Available in a variety of styles, patterns, and sizes, ceramic tiles come in a wide range of colors that you can use to decorate and create stunning patterns, allowing for great aesthetic versatility in design.
Finally, ceramic tile is generally fairly easy to replace if damaged.

Easy maintenance

Thanks to their durability, ceramic tiles can be easily maintained over the months. You won’t have to worry about liquid stains or mildew appearing on your floors, as these concerns don’t arise with ceramic tile.
On the other hand, you can ensure scratch resistance by choosing tiles with resistance levels between 7 and 10 on the MOHS scale.

All you need is a little sweeping from time to time, and if necessary a damp mop if the surfaces are particularly dirty, to keep your floors clean and shiny.

If you’re tired of having to spend an hour cleaning every day to maintain an attractive look, it may be time to install ceramic tile in your home!

Stain resistance

Thanks to the technical characteristics identified by its UPEC coefficient (wear, punching, water and humidity, chemical agents), ceramic is composed of materials resistant to chemicals, steam, and stains, including that porosity.
Ceramic tiles are unalterable, easy to clean, and can be maintained with water, a simple wipe, and low-chemical detergents as long as you know the porosity of your tiles before buying your cleaning products. For example, for the kitchen, the porosity index must be equal to U3, P2, E2, C2.
This way, you don’t have to worry about your tile getting stained every time you cook, or if you spill stubborn stains such as cooking oils or cola for example.

How to know the porosity?

To recognize if a tile is porous, there are three very easy test techniques to apply:

● Dust test: In this case, the permeability of the tiles is observed if the dirt persists despite cleaning with water. The dust has an abrasive wear character equivalent to U4.

● Black Pencil Test: Use a black pencil and apply lines to the tile. If these do not disappear, even though you have cleaned them with a damp cloth. This means that ceramic tiles are porous and difficult to remove.

● Water drop test: you can pour a few drops of water on the surface of the tiles, if the absorption is immediate, you can ensure that the tile is completely porous. On the other hand, if after about 15 minutes the water is still on the surface, then the porosity factor is zero.

In addition, exterior tiles must have a low porosity rate (less than 2%).

The advantage of being able to find your way around thanks to the standards

The ceramic industry is subject to the application of the international standard PEI (Porcelain Enamel Institute)
The PEI refers to the resistance to abrasion and classifies this criterion into 5 levels. On the other hand, the UPEC is more qualitative, taking into account elements such as resistance to wear and tear, to water, to the marking of furniture…

Good to know:

IEP 1 = Very infrequent use: Bathroom, Guest room
IEP 2 = U2 = Infrequent use: Bathroom, living room
IEP 3 = U2S = P2 = E2 = C2: Moderately frequent passage: entrance, kitchen, living room
IEP 4 = U3 = P3 = E3 = C2 : Frequent passage, outside, store, office
IEP 5 = U3S: Very frequent passage: department store, station hall, exhibition hall
